About the Author

Nick Buchanan grew up in Liverpool when summer's were long and children played in the street. As a teenager he delivered papers, stacked shelves in the Co-op, was a bicycle delivery boy and worked for a Commercial Photographer as a studio-hand and developer of colour films and prints.

Although he has 9 GCSE passes, he believes that schools have very little to do with education and are more concerned with institutionalization. However, there are nevertheless, inspirational teachers who make a positive difference – for Nick, these were Richard Newington and Mr. Wynn Williams.

With a BA(Hons) in Graphic Design Nick worked as a Designer and Illustrator, painting covers for book-jackets and illustrations for magazines (Radio Times, Nursing Magazine, Balance, etc). He also worked as a Teacher, teaching Art & Design, Graphic Design and the Certificate of Education for twenty-five years before leaving to become a self-employed Trainer. He takes a pride in delivering Staff Developments which make a difference (as opposed to those horrible boring ones led by empty suits - ‘a tailor make a man?’).

He is a fully qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and Clinical Hypnotherapist - as well as a Master Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming.

He loves sunlight underwater, a cool pillow on a hot day, birdsong at dawn and the sensitive trumpet playing of Chet Baker.

In addition to Shakespeare, Nick is passionate about a whole host of other authors, including; Alan Garner, Alan Moore, Alfred Bestall, Anthony Burgess, Anthony Peake, Arthur Koestler, Arthur Miller, C. S. Lewis, Charles Bukowski, Clifford D. Simak, Colin Wilson, Cormac McCarthy, David Mercer, Dennis Potter, Doris Lessing, Dr. Seuss, E.E. Cummings, E. F. Schummacher, Edna O’Brien, Edward DeBono, Edward Thomas, Erich Fromm, Edgar Allan Poe, Franz Kafka, George Orwell, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Harlan Ellison, Harold Pinter, Herman Hesse, J. K. Rowling, James Joyce, John Steinbeck, Jonathan Miller, Jorge Luis Borges, Ken Wilber, Keith Douglas, Lewis Carroll, Loren D. Estleman, Michel Faber, Mickey Spillane, Milan Kundera, Neil Kramer, Oliver Sacks, Oscar Wilde, Peter Shaffer, Philip K. Dick, Philip Larkin, Philip Pullman, Ray Bradbury, Richard Brautigan, Roald Dahl, Robert Crais, Robert Frost, Robert Sheckley, Roland Barthes, Russell Hoban, Seamus Heaney, Seán Street, Stephen King, Susan Hill, Ted Hughes, Theodore Sturgeon, Umberto Eco, Walter Mosley, William Blake, William Golding, and William Hjortsberg.

He reads comics and believes that Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, Art Speigleman’s Maus and Alan Moore’s Watchmen are also high art. He avoids the term ‘Graphic Novel’ because he does not feel the need to hide the fact that he loves comics.

Comic artists he adores include:

Al Feldstein, Alfred Bestall, Bernie Wrightson, Curt Swan, Dave Gibbons, Dave Stevens, Eduardo Risso, Graham Ingels, Hergé, Jack Davies, Jack Kamen, Jack Kirby, Jeff Jones, Jim Aparo, Johnny Romita Snr, Marshall Rodgers, Milton Caniff, Moebius, Neal Adams, Ogden Whitney, Richard Corben, Robert Crumb, Steve Ditko, Wally Wood, Walt Kelly, Will Eisner, Will Elder.
